Time will tell, but you have to wonder what the board is thinking in naming Meg Whitman as the new CEO. Didn't they learn from the Carol Bartz-Yahoo situation that consumer businesses requires consumer expertise and a technology/manufacturing/services company requires someone with that same background/experience. Just because Whitman did a fabulous job with Ebay, doesn't mean that the same thing will happen in a huge turnaround situation in a $128 Billion in revenues company. Ebay, by way of comparison, was in fewer businesses and had $10 Billion in revenues.
Don't get me wrong. I think Meg Whitman is a genius, just as I think Carol Bartz is a genius. But somehow the fit of person/skills to the job is not readily apparent.
